T-39 Roadside Safety Barrier

The T-39 Thriebeam Barrier is the latest innovation in steel safety barrier systems providing superior design, rapid installation and driver confi dence. Exclusive to Ingal Civil Products, the T-39 barrier has been fully crash tested and evaluated according to specifi cations for Test Level 3 (TL3) and Test Level 4 (TL4) of the US National Cooperative Highway Research Program Report 350 (NCHRP Report 350) and the anticipated update to NCHRP Report 350.

Rigorous crash testing required impacts with an 8000kg rigid truck travelling at 80km/h, a 2270kg pickup truck travelling at 100km/h and an 820kg small car travelling at 100km/h.

T-39 performed outstandingly well in all tests recording just 0.81m defl ection for the truck impact and 0.63m defl ection during the pick-up truck test.

Traditional ‘deemed to comply’ thriebeam barrier systems use a triple corrugated panel supported by C posts and cumbersome blocking pieces. T-39 uses specially engineered Steel Yielding Line Posts (SYLP’s) that are driven directly into the ground. The SYLP’s reduce vehicle snagging, thus eliminating the requirement for blocking pieces. This enables T-39 to be installed up to 350mm closer to the roadway than traditional thriebeam systems, reducing costly site earthworks.

The high visibility of T-39 creates driver confi dence. This is an intangible but exceedingly important factor. At night or in fog conditions, the excellent visibility of T-39 highlights the limit of safe travel and reduces dangerous centreline crowding.
