About the project:

Main Roads WA - CPB Contractors / Safety Barrier Solutions

Supply of Flexbeam guardrail terminated with ET2000 Plus end-terminals & QuadGuard crash cushions

The Mitchell Freeway is a 30km long freeway in the northern suburbs of Perth, WA, linking central Perth with the satellite city of Joondalup. It is the northern section of State Route 2, which continues south as Kwinana Freeway and Forrest Highway. Along its length are interchanges with several major roads, including Graham Farmer Freeway and Reid Highway. The southern terminus of the Mitchell Freeway is at the Narrows Bridge, which crosses the Swan River, and the northern terminus is at Hester Avenue, which is in the suburb of Clarkson.

The latest $236 million extension from Burns Beach Road to Hester Avenue is now complete and open to traffic. The new 6 km section of freeway provides a direct access to and from Neerabup Road and Hester Avenue in Clarkson. The project will deliver six kilometres of dual carriageway in each direction, with capacity for expansion to three lanes in the future; new interchanges at Burns Beach Road, Neerabup Road and Hester Avenue and shared paths for pedestrians and cyclists, including underpasses and a bridge.

To improve road safety on the project, approximately 10km of Flexfence TL4 wire rope safety barrier was chosen to protect motorists from road side hazards. This was supplemented with 4km of Flexbeam guardrail, terminated with either the ET2000 Plus guardrail terminal or the QuadGuard crash cushion.
