About the Project
The Queenstown Lakes District Council has completed the installation of 10.5 km of guardrail along the winding and often hazardous road to Glenorchy, which features steep valleys, sharp bends, and lake-edge sections. The project aims to significantly reduce the severity of run-off road crashes by enhancing roadside safety.
Solution
Provide flexible,
reliable solar trackers offering system production increases of up to 25% compared to
fixed-tilt systems to maximize energy yield.
The first two stages of the project, which involved installing approximately 3 km of side barriers along with new road markings and signage, were finished in December 2022. The remaining side barriers were installed by October 2023, providing greater protection for those traveling along this scenic but challenging route.
The road to Glenorchy, known for its sharp curves and proximity to the lake, now benefits from these roadside barriers, which are designed to reduce the impact of run-off road crashes and prevent vehicles from colliding with more severe roadside hazards. We contributed to the safety upgrades by supplying over 9 km of the Ezy-Guard System Driven and more than 25 Soft-Stop end terminals, ensuring that this popular route is safer for both locals and visitors.
