Select the Right Safety Barrier
Select the Right Safety Barrier

October 22, 2026

Selecting the right safety barrier is rarely just a question of containment level. Site geometry, structural capacity and timeframes narrow the options, and Ingal Civil Products has developed three systems: ArmorZone MASH, Ingal Long Span Barrier and Ingal Elevated Barrier.

Select the Right Safety Barrier

ArmorZone MASH

Temporary works need speed of deployment and a system that leaves no trace.

ArmorZone MASH is a MASH TL2 water-filled barrier built from interlocking polyethylene units joined with a steel pin, filled onsite with a standard tanker at about a minute per two-metre-long unit. Its slim footprint means more units fit on a single truckload, cutting transport runs and site deliveries. Empty units are light enough to position by hand, without a crane or heavy plant.

It runs straight or curves down to a 28-metre radius, adapting to intersections and traffic changes, and connects directly to a purpose built end treatment to stop a run within the clear zone.

Once the job is done, it drains and packs away just as fast.

Ingal Long Span Barrier

Much of the bridge, culvert and causeway infrastructure managed by local government predates current barrier loading requirements, never designed to carry the extra load a crash barrier imposes.

Ingal Long Span Barrier, tested and approved to MASH TL4, addresses this with a clear span of up to 16 metres, keeping every support post on solid ground clear of the structure. Its modular design keeps panels lightweight, easy to install and free of any need for heavy craning machinery on site.

That removes the need to strengthen the structure before installing a barrier, cutting a cost and approval hurdle from bridge and causeway upgrades. On flood-prone causeways, the same design keeps debris from banking against the barrier during high flow, lowering maintenance over the asset’s life.

Panels stay under eight metres and 480 kilograms, so sections can be freighted and installed without specialised heavy lifting equipment, a real advantage for remote crossings.

Ingal Elevated Barrier

Where a structure cannot accommodate additional load, Ingal Elevated Barrier bolts directly to the deck with no additional footings, tested to MASH TL3 and exceeding AS5100.2 Low Performance requirements. Baseplate mounted posts mean a damaged section can be replaced quickly after a crash, without disturbing the surrounding run.

It is engineered for minimal load transfer during an impact, lowering the risk of cracked concrete, a road closure or added repair costs. At a system width of 245 millimetres, it preserves lane width on constrained structures, installing as a top or side mount depending on available space.

Together, the three systems reflect one principle: engineer the barrier around the site, not the site around the barrier, backed by a national Austroads Technical Conditions for Use approval.
