MASH, the Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware, is the crash testing standard used to evaluate the performance of road safety barrier systems in New Zealand. Since 1 November 2012, MASH has been the nominal testing standard for road safety hardware on the state highway network, superseding the earlier NCHRP 350 standard. MASH testing assesses how a barrier system performs when impacted by a range of vehicle types and impact angles, measuring vehicle containment, redirection, occupant risk, and structural adequacy, with products rated to specific Test Levels depending on posted speed and site conditions.
